Understanding How We’re Wired And What Compels Us to Act

Whether you’re promoting a cause, raising money, or selling something, everyone is on the hunt to win hearts and minds. 

First of all, the heart and mind are two very different things.  What excites one, bores the other.

But together, they shape our values and who we are as human beings.

Our heart is emotional, impulsive, and passionate.   

Our mind is curious but often times cold and calculated. 

They pull us in opposite directions, but one is usually stronger than the other and that defines who we are as a person and how we make decisions.

Knowing where your audience is on that spectrum is the most important thing to consider if you want to connect with them and inspire action.

But, balance is still important.  Don’t cater to the heart at the expense of the mind and vice versa.  Both still seek validation from the other.

Emotional storytelling appeals to the heart but needs to be grounded in truth.  The mind will find reasons to say no.

Facts and statistics stimulate the mind but need to be personified to trigger our heart and compel us to take a calculated risk.
