Content is King

A Guide to Developing an Effective Engagement Strategy

First let’s acknowledge the world we live in.

It’s fickle, chaotic, and unforgiving.

Whether you’re an established brand or a young startup, a non profit or higher ed institution, one rule applies to all. CONTENT IS KING.

You’re not going to win anyone over with one video, so don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

You’re also not going to build a loyal following with a steady stream of the slop, so don’t cut corners.

A successful content strategy should be grounded by these these two principles.

⁃ It should be ENGAGING

⁃ It should be CONSISTENT

Depending on your goals, that will mean something different for everyone, but as you develop your strategy, keep these things in mind:

  • Clearly identify what you want to say and what you want your audience to do.

  • Assess your budget and find the right balance between quantity and quality.  Both are important.

  • Be authentic and create content that connects with your viewers on a deeper level.

  • Pick the right channels to distribute the right type of content and think of how how each asset will bring people closer action.

  • Be efficient and maximize your content by breaking it down and repurposing it across all platforms.

  • Plan ahead and schedule your content delivery across all platforms.

  • Be prepared to engage with your viewers.

While this all may seem daunting, it really comes down to one thing.

Are you willing to dedicate the time and resources to really connect with people and motivate them to answer your call to action?

A successful content strategy leverages every angle, every dollar, and every piece of content to maximize reach and encourage engagement. You must be relentless but also patient.

Most people won’t click on your first, second, or even third post.  Be prepared for that, because if you can see the bigger picture and play the long game, you’ll set yourself up for success.

Together, these principals are the foundation of any good content strategy but, the final piece of the puzzle is a trusted parter.
